Late afternoon, part of the march heads for the Hôtel de Ville. Windows go, fire takes the ground floor. Around 8:30 pm the campanile, the city's landmark, collapses.
France is burning.
18.10 · The world watches
Even Donald Trump reacts: France is burning, he says. The images go around the planet, and Crypto Twitter is already minting the coins.
Pierre holds the line.
17.10 · Nice
Looters hit the high street. Pierre, who runs the Micromania game store, stands in his smashed doorway to stop them and takes a kick in the back. By morning, the whole internet knows his name.
